Artist's Comments

A not so simple portrait render. The image is named after the necklace which was created by my wife who is a jewlery designer. I have found it very difficult to get a close up portrait to look photo realistic. This is about as close as I have come.

The hair is real, the skin is perfectly flawed/textured, the background is Excellent, great detail. Everything is right there, when you get so close to realism it gets hard to pin point what it is thats throwing it off. but id say the shine, it looks as if the specularity could be nudged a bit. And something about the eyes, they are great, maybe too much shadow is hitting them, You are so there its very convincing. Is that area light you used? Which 3D App did you use? This looks amazingly real! Keep up the pro work!

Wow so well done! She's incredibly beautiful :)

Indeed very well done. I agree with lolanubislol.

And the face texture although very well done is a litle flawless from this close and it starting looking fake. The area of the front bone and nose is too soft. (not that I can do better - is that is just easier to see than to do....)

Appart from the comments above I think we should learn better how the subsurface scattering works on human skin. Poser and DAZ have some approachs but they are not satisfactory for all illumination setups. Even C4D and Maxwell solutions (that are much better) dont responds everytime as well as we should expect. I keep trying.

I started a club for people interested in 3D photorealism, but it turned more on a Poser-nude display (that dont disguise me at all but could be deeper in the matter). If you can contribute with some photo real images, tutorials, or even journal discussions they are welcome. :iconbyteflesh-cafe:

PS - Congrats to your wife. Beuatiful jewell.

Cheers.

yeah the subsurface scattering is very difficult, even Hollywood couldn't get that just right, in beowolf. They are very close tho. like nix said, "not that i can do better." Creating the model to exact detail and accuracy is one thing (and its own challenge in modeling), but Rendering it to photo real quality, can be mind boggling.

yeah, shes incredibly unreal ;)

Heheheh...closer to real than I'd be able to do! *grin*
